Google hires Character.AI co-founders; will license its AI Models

- Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has hired the co-founders of artificial intelligence startup Character.AI and will license the startup’s large language models.
- Noam Shazeer, who co-founded Character.AI and was its Chief Executive Officer, will rejoin Google, along with co-founder Daniel De Freitas, along with a few other employees of the firm.
- In turn, Character.AI’s General Counsel Dominic Perella will become the interim CEO, TechCrunch reported.
- It was reported last month that Character.AI had held talks with Google and a few other tech companies about research partnerships.
- Character.AI has raised more than $150M in funding from venture capital firms, such as Andreessen Horowitz, to create AI chatbots that encompass anime characters, game characters and more.
