- Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) told the Financial Times on Wednesday that it has increased its sovereign cloud options in the European Union and has added a data shield for further cybersecurity protection, amid ongoing trade tensions around the world.
- “Sovereignty used to be a very niche thing, that applied to very regulated industries, such as defense and intelligence,” Hayete Gallot, Google’s president of customer experience, told the news outlet. “And suddenly in the current environment, everybody is thinking about it.”
- Gallot added global tensions were “creating anxiety in the world” and customers were “looking for options to manage their business.”
- Google shares were fractionally higher in premarket trading on Wednesday.
