Google integrates Gemini AI in Chrome for US users

Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google is incorporating its AI tool Gemini in the Chrome browser in the U.S., just two weeks after an antitrust case that could have impacted the ownership of its browser.

Google added Gemini to Chrome for U.S. users on Thursday, making it available to those signed into Chrome with a U.S. English-language account on a Mac or Windows device who have the latest Chrome version.

Gemini delivers concise summaries of articles, pages or threads directly in the browser, so a user can quickly grasp the main points.

The company is also integrating Gemini with other services like Google Docs, YouTube and Calendar. And it will be available on both Android and iOS soon.

Gemini in Chrome will be available to businesses in the coming weeks via Google Workspace with enterprise-grade data protections and controls, according to a blog post by Mike Torres, vice president of Chrome.

“In the coming months, we’ll be introducing agentic capabilities to Gemini in Chrome,” said Torres.

Earlier this month, a federal court ruled that Google won’t be forced to sell its flagship Chrome Web browser in a closely watched antitrust case. Judge Amit Mehta ruled that Google must open up competition in online search by sharing more data with competitors and added that the company could not enter exclusive contracts for search but could still pay for search engine inclusion.

Earlier this week it was reported that Google’s Gemini overtook OpenAI’s ChatGPT as the most downloaded free app on the App Store over the weekend.
