Google launches cheaper AI Plus plan in India to rival ChatGPT Go

Alphabet’s (GOOG) (GOOGL) Google has launched its more affordable AI Plus plan in India as it seeks to compete on pricing with other low-cost AI services like OpenAI’s (OPENAI) ChatGPT Go subscription.

Google AI Plus is available in India starting at Rs 399 ($4.44) per month. New subscribers can get the plan at Rs 199 ($2.21) for the first six months.

The plan includes more access to — Gemini 3 Pro in the Gemini app, image generation and editing model Nano Banana Pro, video generation in the Gemini app, creative tools like Flow, Gemini in apps like Gmail and Docs, expanded access to NotebookLM for deeper research and analysis, and 200 GB of storage across Photos, Drive, and Gmail.

The company said users can share all of these benefits with up to five other family members.

Before this, Google’s cheapest AI subscription plan in India was Google AI Pro priced at ₹1,950 per month ($21.69).

Google is late to customize its pricing in India, as the AI Plus plan was first unveiled in Indonesia in September and offered in other countries that very month, TechCrunch reported.

In August, OpenAI launched its cheaper ChatGPT paid subscription plan in India called ChatGPT GO, priced at ₹399 per month.

AI tech companies have been eager to offer AI services in India as they seek to tap its huge population for users. Perplexity partnered with telecom operator Airtel to offer its Pro plan for a year to all Airtel customers for free. OpenAI offered ChatGPT Go free for a year to existing subscribers of Go and new users. Google partnered with Reliance Jio to offer its AI Pro plan for 18 months at no cost to users on a particular carrier plan.
