Intel (INTC) executive Daniel Rogers confirmed this week that the semiconductor company will mark a return to its roots of sorts, as it working on a new processor dedicated towards gaming, along with a new gaming platform.
The platform will include both hardware and software, Rogers said at CES, according to comments obtained by TechCrunch. The platform will use Intel’s Core Series 3 processors as their base, Rogers added.
The executive said the company will have more to say about the processor and platform later this year.
Intel has created dedicated processors for the gaming industry for years — going back to the 1990s — and aims to put itself further in competition with AMD (AMD) and Nvidia (NVDA), which have worked on dedicated processors for the industry for years.
Intel shares rose 1.9% in late afternoon trading, while Nvidia and AMD were mixed.
