Intel’s products could face heat in China as cyber association calls for review: report
The Cybersecurity Association of China has asked that Intel’s (NASDAQ:INTC) products sold in China be subject to a security review, alleging the company has “constantly harmed” China’s national security and interests, Reuters reported.
Intel’s stock was down about 2% premarket on Wednesday.
The CSAC made several allegations against Intel in a long post on its official WeChat group, according to the report.
Intel did not immediately respond to a request by Seeking Alpha for a comment on the matter.
The organization, which is an industry group and not a government body, has close relations with the Chinese state. This could potentially trigger a security review from the Asian country’s cyberspace agency, the Cyberspace Administration of China, the report added.
CSAC said, “it is recommended that a network security review is initiated on the products Intel sells in China, so as to effectively safeguard China’s national security and the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese consumers.”
Last year, the Cyberspace Administration of China found that Micron Technology’s (MU) products had “relatively serious” potential network securities issues and warned that operators of critical information infrastructure should stop purchasing the goods.
