Israel’s El Al orders Boeing 737 MAX jets worth up to $2.5B
El Al Israel Airlines has finalized a deal with Boeing (NYSE:BA) for up to 31 737 MAX jets worth up to $2.5B.
The order marks the Israeli flag carrier’s largest airplane purchase in its 76-year history and follows its purchase earlier this year of three additional 787-9 jets with options for six more as the airline further expands its 787 Dreamliner fleet.
The latest agreement includes the purchase of 20 737 MAX airliners for $1.5B and options for 11 more, Reuters reported, with delivery likely to begin in 2028.
El Al Israel said it would consider bringing forward the operation of several 737 MAX aircraft to as early as 2027 through a dry lease.
