Least shorted S&P 500 stocks in July

Alphabet (GOOG), Walmart (WMT) and Philip Morris International (PM) took the top spots as the least shorted S&P 500 (SP500) stocks in July.

As of July 31, 0.33% of Alphabet’s Class C (GOOG) shares were sold short. The American tech company witnessed a decline in short share volume during the month, with traders selling 40.72M shares of GOOG short, a decline of 4.97% from June end. Class A shares of Alphabet (GOOGL) had short interest of 0.53% last month.

Walmart (WMT) was next, with 0.46% of its shares sold short as of July 31. The retailer, which rallied last week after lifting its annual outlook, saw a 2.2% rise in short shares volume in the month, at 37.36M compared to the previous total of 36.56M at June end.

Philip Morris (PM) took the fourth spot, with a short interest of 9.12M shares, representing 0.59% of the float. The tobacco company saw an 8% M/M decline in short shares volume.
