Meta Platforms unveils Meta Compute as it scales up in the AI infrastructure arms race

Meta Platforms (META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Monday that the company plans to establish a new “top-level” initiative called Meta Compute focused on building tens of gigawatts of AI infrastructure this decade and hundreds of gigawatts or more over time.

Meta Compute will be led by Santosh Janardhan, who will continue to oversee data center technical architecture, software stack, silicon programs, and operation of the global fleet and backbone network.

The early reaction from analysts is that the initiative is a foundational, multi-decade platform bet from the company on how effectively it engineers and finances compute capacity to position itself in the AI arms race.

Shares of Meta Platforms (META) were down 1.0% in Monday afternoon trading.
