Meta reportedly in talks with India’s Jio for a potential VR deal
The discussions are focused on Meta providing its Horizon software to power a VR device Jio would develop, two people familiar with the matter told The Information.
Jio has been testing waters with AR and VR in recent years and introduced JioDive and JioGlass.
Meta, on the other hand, is working to get more companies to adopt Horizon as a standard OS for products with VR, AR, and mixed reality capabilities, but has not been very successful.
The Indian company is eye candy for tech giants like Meta and Google, who both have a significant stake, as they try to penetrate the biggest Southeast Asian market and stay ahead of each other amid the country’s economic growth and low-cost technological prowess.
Meta and Jio could not be immediately reached for comment.
