Connor Hayes has been chosen to helm Meta Platforms’ (NASDAQ:META) text-based social media app Threads, Axios reported on Thursday.
Hayes, a longtime company employee, will take over from Instagram head Adam Mosseri, who was overseeing Threads.
“Given Threads’ maturity, we think we need a dedicated app lead who can focus all of their time on helping Threads move forward,” Mosseri reportedly wrote in a staff memo, which was seen by Axios.
The microblogging app has gained over 380M users as of July 2025, still below its direct rival X’s user base of 600M.
Hayes joined Meta in 2011 and was a key member of the team that built the app to compete directly with the platform formerly known as Twitter. He later served as the company’s vice president of product for generative AI.
Hayes will assume the new role by mid-September and will report directly to Mosseri.
