Microsoft-backed OpenAI adds ex-Meta executive to head strategic initiatives
OpenAI, the generative AI startup backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), has once again turned to Big Tech expertise to bolster its executive team, adding Irina Kofman, a former executive at Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), as head of strategic initiatives.
Kofman, who recently joined OpenAI, last served as a senior director of product management for generative AI at Meta (META), the owner of Facebook and Instagram.
In her new role, Kofman will report directly to OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati. Kofman’s responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies to enhance the safety and reliability of OpenAI’s technologies.
Her appointment marks OpenAI’s latest attempt to bring senior executives at big tech companies to beef up its management.
In June, the San Francisco, California-headquartered firm added former Instagram and Twitter executive Kevin Weil as chief product officer and Sarah Friar, a former CFO of Block (SQ) (previously known as Square), as chief financial officer.
