Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced Saturday that users of its Azure cloud platform could see slower response times following multiple undersea cable breaks in the Red Sea.
In a system update, the company said the disruptions affect data traffic routed through the Middle East, though services outside the region remain unaffected.
“We do expect higher latency on some traffic that previously traversed through the Middle East. Network traffic that does not traverse through the Middle East is not impacted,” the company said, adding that it will continue to issue daily updates or sooner if conditions change.
Azure, the world’s second-largest cloud service behind Amazon Web Services (AMZN), has redirected traffic along alternate routes to minimize the effect. While the rerouting has prevented outright outages, some customers may still experience delays in connectivity.
