Missouri generated massive sports betting volume in December, according to a report from the Missouri Gaming Commission. The total handle during the month was $543.0M, which consisted of $4.1M at retail locations and $538.9M through mobile apps.
In terms of mobile betting, FanDuel (FLUT) led the state with $212.7M in total wagers. DraftKings (DKNG) generated $195.3M in betting action, followed by Bet365 with $57.8M and BetMGM (MGM) (GMVHF) with $28.1M. Fanatics (FANA) impressed with $22M in betting action despite having a lower profile. Caesars Sportsbook (CZR) was the only other app to generate more than $10M in betting action, with a tally of $14.5M.
The $543M handle for Missouri is considered by analysts a strong start for a state that only ranks 19th in population. Notably, the sports betting total was more than the combined total for neighboring states Iowa and Kansas for December.
The online sportsbook operators were aggressive with promotions during the month, which means that the actual hold rate may be low amid the battle for market share.
Sports betting officially launched in Missouri on December 1.
