More than 3M customers without power as Hurricane Helene rips through southeast U.S.
More than 3M homes and businesses in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina are without power Friday morning after Hurricane Helene slammed into the state’s Big Bend area overnight, knocking out power lines, downing trees and flooding streets.
In Florida, 390K of Duke Energy’s (NYSE:DUK) customers were without electricity, followed by NextEra Energy’s (NEE) Florida Power & Light with 216K customers cut off, according to a 7 a.m. update at poweroutage.us.
In Georgia, Southern Co.’s (SO) Georgia Power reported 635K customers were without power.
In South Carolina, outages totaled 327K for Dominion Energy (D) and 251K for Duke Energy (DUK).
After making landfall as a Category 4 hurricane with 140 mph winds, Helene has weakened to a tropical storm with 70 mph winds as it heads across Georgia.
