Most shorted S&P 500 stocks in July

American Airlines Group (AAL), Etsy (ETSY) and Albemarle (ALB) lead the list of most shorted S&P 500 stocks as a percentage of float in July.

As of July 31, 12.68% of American Airlines’ (AAL) shares were sold short, compared to 13.3% at the end of June. Short interest in the U.S. carrier decreased by 24.67% since mid-July. As of July 31st, around 83.17M shares of AAL were sold short, compared to 110.41M on July 15.

Etsy (ETSY) saw a decrease in short interest during the month, with 12.59% of its floating shares sold short. The e-commerce company currently has a public float of around 113.72M shares.

Albemarle (ALB) also witnessed a decline in short interest in July. As of July end, the specialty chemicals maker had short interest totaling 14.49M shares, compared to 15.5M at the end of June.
