News network MSNBC (NASDAQ:CMCSA) said Monday it will rename itself to “MS NOW,” which stands for “My Source News Opinion World.” It is also expected to have a new logo as part of the corporate identity change.
The changes come as Comcast spins off a majority of its networks portfolio into a new entity, Versant. The network said the move also reflects its independence from NBCUniversal and NBC News.

“During this time of transition, NBCUniversal decided that our brand requires a new, separate identity,” MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler said in a memo to employees. “This decision now allows us to set our own course and assert our independence as we continue to build our own modern newsgathering operation.”
“For our viewers who have watched us for decades, it may be hard to imagine this network by any other name. We understand. But our promise to you remains as it always has. You know who we are and what we do,” the network said on its website.
CNBC, which is also moving into Versant, will retain its name but will have a new logo. USA Network and Golf Channel will be combined to be known as “USA Sports.”
