NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE) said Monday it received license renewal from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for Point Beach Nuclear Plant Units 1 and 2 in Wisconsin, extending operations through 2050 and 2053, respectively.
Point Beach has been operating Unit 1 since 1970 and Unit 2 since 1973; together, they generate enough electricity to power ~1 million homes and businesses, supplying 14% of the state’s total electricity.
“This approval ensures that Wisconsin’s only nuclear plant will continue to provide safe, reliable, low-cost energy for generations to come,” NextEra Energy Resources (NYSE:NEE) President and CEO Brian Bolster said.
Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant, operated by NextEra’s (NEE) Florida Power & Light, recently received subsequent license renewal approval.
