NIO highlights new vehicles, key innovations at a special weekend event

NIO (NYSE:NIO) held a special event over the weekend in Hangzhou, China. Under the theme “Grow with the Light,” the electric vehicle maker shared product announcements and highlighted key innovations.

The all-new third-generation ES8 SUV was officially launched. The ES8 is available in seven-seater and six-seater Executive Premium Editions. The model features a 925V high-voltage system, 5C fast-charging, and a new 3K AMOLED screen running the CEDA operating system.It offers a maximum power output of 697 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds. Pricing starts from RMB 406,800 (approx. $57,170), or as low as RMB 298,800 with NIO’s (NYSE:NIO) battery-as-a-service subscription plan.

NIO (NYSE:NIO) also unveiled the premium executive sedan ET9 Horizon Edition. Deliveries of the ET9 Horizon Edition and third-gen ES8 began immediately following the event. Hong Kong singer Karen Mok was introduced as the Chief Experience Officer of the ES8, highlighting the company’s increased focus on personalized user experience and influencer engagement.

The company also celebrated the opening of its 3,500th battery swap station in China and highlighted that it has reached over 82 million cumulative global battery swaps, emphasizing continued infrastructure expansion and BEV ecosystem advancement. NIO (NIO) also pointed to its collection of 9,900+ patents and proprietary full-stack technology across 12 domains

CEO William Li said 2025 is a turning point for NIO (NIO). “The good experiences brought by BEVs will outweigh the inconvenience of recharging. Users’ choices and market data have proven that the premium new energy vehicle market is accelerating its transition to the electric era,” he noted. Li said that building on over ten years of technological innovation, NIO (NIO) will continue to meet user needs with high-quality products and services.

On Wall Street, Morgan Stanley said the ES8 brought sparkle back to Nio Day. Analyst Timothy Hsiao said the firm’s channel checks showed that Nio (NIO) has already converted well on preorders. Bank of America lifted its price objective on NIO (NIO) to $7.60 following the special event. The firm reiterated a Neutral rating on NIO (NIO) on its view that the positives from volume growth and narrowing losses have largely been reflected in current valuation.

Shares of NIO (NIO) were down 2.0% in premarket trading on Monday.
