Nvidia CEO Huang says firm’s $30B investment in OpenAI likely a prelude to IPO

  • Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang said on Wednesday that his company’s recent $30B investment into OpenAI (OPENAI) “might be the last time” it invests in the ChatGPT maker, as it is likely to go public.
  • Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, Huang said the proposed $100B investment into OpenAI, which the two companies mentioned in September, was likely “not in the cards.”
  • “The reason for that is because they’re going to go public,” Huang said, according to comments obtained by CNBC. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is set to appear at the conference on Thursday.
  • Huang also noted that Nvidia’s $10B investment into Anthropic (ANTHRO) would also likely be its last.
  • Nvidia shares rose 2.4% in midday trading on Wednesday.
