- Canadian startup Tenstorrent has raised $693M in a new Series D funding round as it looks to compete with Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) and others in the artificial intelligence accelerator market.
- Tensorrent, which chose Samsung (OTCPK:SSNLF) last year to build its AI chips, raised funding from Samsung, Amazon co-founder Jeff Bezos and a host of others. Law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and investment firm Barclays helped with the funding round, Tensorrent Chief Operating Officer Keith Witek said.
- The new funding values Tensorrent at $2.6B, Bloomberg reported.
- Some of Tenstorrent’s chips use RISC-V technology, an alternative to Arm (ARM) -based architecture that is being championed by Qualcomm (QCOM) and some other semiconductor companies. The other major semiconductor architecture is x86, which is championed by Intel (INTC) and AMD (AMD).
