Nvidia, G42 team to develop AI solutions for weather forecasting, climate tech
Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is collaborating with United Arab Emirates-based AI company G42 to advance climate technology, with a focus on developing AI solutions aimed at boosting accuracy of weather forecasting globally.
The companies said they will set up a new operational base and Climate Tech Lab in Abu Dhabi which will serve as a hub for research and development, driving the companies’ commitment to environmental sustainability. This facility will also mobilize the creation of tailored climate and weather solutions which use over 100 petabytes of geophysical data assets.
The partnership will use Nvidia’s Earth-2, an open platform that accelerates climate and weather predictions with AI-augmented, high-resolution simulation, the companies said in a press release on Friday.
G42 and Nvidia’s will initially focus on a square-kilometer resolution weather forecasting model which improves the accuracy of meteorological predictions.
“The Earth-2 Climate Tech Lab will propel environmental solutions using the most advanced accelerated computing and AI technology to benefit millions of people around the world,” said Nvidia’s Founder and CEO Jensen Huang.
The companies noted that besides innovation in climate technology, the initiative will focus on building a framework for integrating weather prediction capabilities with comprehensive data metrics and visualization. This will help organizations globally to achieve their sustainability goals through data-driven environmental strategies.
Earlier this week, Microsoft (MSFT) and G42 said they would set up two centers in Abu Dhabi to advance responsible AI goals. The agreement built on their April partnership, under which Microsoft is investing $1.5B in the AI firm.
