OpenAI announced on Thursday it has added Zico Kolter, a professor of machine learning at Carnegie Mellon University, to its board of directors.
Kolter will also become a part of the board’s Safety and Security committee, where he will serve alongside directors Bret Taylor, Adam D’Angelo, Paul Nakasone, Nicole Seligman, Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman and OpenAI technical experts.
“Zico adds deep technical understanding and perspective in AI safety and robustness that will help us ensure general artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity,” Taylor, who is OpenAI’s chairman, said in a statement.
Kolter was previously the Chief Data Scientist at C3.ai (AI) and is currently the Chief Expert at Bosch and the Chief Technical Advisor at AI startup Gray Swan.
Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced a multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI in January 2023. Since then, it has integrated OpenAI’s technology into a number of its offerings.
