Sam Altman, the Chief Executive Officer of generative AI startup OpenAI, said recent executive departures are not tied to a potential restructuring at the company, Reuters reported.
“That’s totally not true,” Altman said to Italian Tech Week conference organizer John Elkann, according to the news outlet.
“A lot of the stuff I saw was also just totally wrong, but we have been thinking about that (restructuring), our board has, for almost a year, independently, as we think about what it takes to get to our next stage,” Altman added.
On Wednesday, OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati said she was leaving the company. After Murati announced her decision, senior research executives Barret Zoph and Bob McGrew also announced their respectiveexits from the ChatGPT creator.
Former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever left the company in June. The new company he co-founded, Safe Superintelligence, recently raised $1B in funding.
OpenAI is backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), which invested multiple billions of dollars in the company in January 2023.
