OpenAI embarks on global expansion
Microsoft-backed (NASDAQ:MSFT) OpenAI is opening new offices in multiple cities around the world as part of its global expansion efforts, the maker of ChatGPT said in a post on X on Wednesday.
“We’re opening offices in NYC, Seattle, Paris, Brussels, and Singapore, alongside our growing San Francisco, London, Dublin, and Tokyo office,” the post read.
OpenAI also said it appointed Oliver Jay as managing director for international to oversee its global operations and facilitate global expansion from Singapore.
The company plans to open a Singapore office later this year that will serve as a hub for its APAC operations, and has already started building a team in the city-state.
This will be OpenAI’s second office in Asia, after it opened its first Asian office in Tokyo earlier this year. In addition, the AI firm is looking to expand access to its AI technology in Southeast Asia through a partnership with AI Singapore, a national program that supports local companies and research organizations in leveraging AI.
The global expansion follows the San Francisco-based firm’s $6.6B fundraising round that propelled the company to a valuation of $157B, making it the second-highest valued startup in the world
The company said that the new funding will allow it to ramp up AI research, increase compute capacity, and continue building tools that help people solve hard problems.
OpenAI is projected to generate $3.7B in revenue in 2024.
