OpenAI, the generative artificial intelligence startup backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), has hired the team behind AI startup Crossing Minds.
Crossing Minds, which offers AI recommendations to e-commerce platforms, made the announcement on its website late on Thursday.
“Joining OpenAI allows us to bring our work — and our values — into a mission we deeply respect: to ensure artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity,” Crossing Minds said. “We’re thrilled to bring our experience and energy to a team that’s setting the direction for the future of AI. We’re excited to learn, to contribute, and to help shape what’s next.”
Crossing Minds had raised $13.5M in funding, according to TechCrunch.
The acqui-hire of the Crossing Minds team comes as the Sam Altman-led OpenAI has been somewhat vulnerable to losing employees to competitors in recent days.
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) has hired several OpenAI researchers to join its superintelligence efforts, a recruiting coup intended to help steer Meta Platforms out of an AI crisis, according to multiple media reports. The social-media giant hired Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov, and Xiaohua Zhai, who were all working in OpenAI’s Zurich office, The Wall Street Journal reported, according to people familiar with the matter. The three set up OpenAI’s office in Zurich late last year.
Separately, on Thursday, TechCrunch reported that Meta snagged OpenAI researcher Trapit Bansal to work on its reasoning models.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
