OpenAI expands content partners as it solidifies deal with Hearst
Microsoft-backed (NASDAQ:MSFT) OpenAI continues to expand its content partnerships with publishers, as it locked down a new deal with Hearst, one of the largest newspaper and magazine publishers in the US.
The partnership allows OpenAI to incorporate content from Hearst publications, which includes more than 60 newspapers and over 20 magazines, into its artificial intelligence products. Some of Hearst most known publications include Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, Esquire and Cosmopolitan.
“Bringing Hearst’s trusted content into our products elevates our ability to provide engaging, reliable information to our users,” said OpenAI’s Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap.
“As generative AI matures, it’s critical that journalism created by professional journalists be at the heart of all AI products,” added Hearst Newspapers President Jeff Johnson.
This is the latest of such deals OpenAI has made with content creators to train large language models or provide news and information through ChatGPT. Others include British news outlet Financial Times, publisher Axel Springer, French newspaper Le Monde, Spanish media conglomerate Prisa Media and the Associated Press.
