Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFF) (OTCPK:PCRHY) is delaying full production of electric vehicle batteries at a new plant in Kansas, as top customer Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) suffers sluggish sales, Japan’s Nikkei business daily reported Friday, without citing sources.
Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFF) (OTCPK:PCRHY) was aiming for full production of 30 GWh/year at the $4B plant by March 2027, but the timing is now undetermined, and a new target date has yet to be fixed, according to the report.
The Kansas plant, Panasonic’s (OTCPK:PCRFF) (OTCPK:PCRHY) second large-scale battery plant in the U.S. after starting mass production of cells in Nevada in 2017, is scheduled to start mass production soon, the report said.
The company recently postponed plans for a third U.S. battery plant due to the slowdown in global EV demand to focus on starting production at the Kansas factory.
