PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP) has introduced an innovative beverage called Pepsi Prebiotic Cola, which is said to blend the iconic cola flavor with functional health benefits aimed at modern consumers. The new drink is set to launch online in fall 2025 and hit retail shelves in early 2026.
Pepsi Prebiotic Cola is focused on the digestive health component. Each 12-ounce can contains 3 grams of prebiotic fiber, intended to support gut health by nourishing beneficial bacteria. The level of fiber intake places it above Poppi (recent PepsiCo acquisition), which offers 2 grams per can, though still below Olipop’s 9 grams. Alongside the prebiotic boost, the drink features just 5 grams of cane sugar, significantly lower than regular Pepsi, and without the use of high-fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners.
Pepsi Prebiotic Cola features only 30 calories per can as it caters to health-conscious consumers who still crave familiarity and flavor. The drink will be available in Original Cola and Cherry Vanilla flavors and will be packaged in single cans and 8-packs, positioned on store shelves next to regular Pepsi offerings. The integration reflects PepsiCo’s (NASDAQ:PEP) strategy to make functional beverages more accessible and mainstream.
“From the iconic blue can, to the consumer-preferred Pepsi Zero Sugar, our portfolio has always adapted to the needs and flavor preferences of the consumer,” stated PepsiCo Beverages U.S. CEO Ram Krishnan. “Pepsi Prebiotic Cola represents the next leap forward in giving consumers choice, optionality, and functional ingredients in their cola experience, without sacrificing the iconic Pepsi taste we’re known for delivering,” added Krishnan.
The big picture
As younger generations reduce their consumption of traditional soda, PepsiCo (PEP) sees the new product as a way to revitalize interest in cola through a mix of nostalgia and nutritional benefits. Notably, younger consumers, especially Gen Z and Millennials, show significantly higher interest in prebiotic and functional beverages compared to older generations.
