Qualcomm deepens Google deal, Snapdragon X2 Plus, more at CES

  • In addition to unveiling its entry into robotics, Qualcomm made several announcements at CES on Monday, including an expansion of its partnership with Google (GOOG) (GOOGL).
  • The San Diego-based semiconductor company said it was working with Google to increase automotive innovation and bring artificial intelligence to the industry. The companies will enable Snapdragon-powered vehicles with AI from the cloud to the car, offering drivers a more personalized experience, thanks to Google Cloud connectivity.
  • Qualcomm also unveiled its new Snapdragon X2 Plus platform aimed at creators, which should boost speed, battery life and AI for PCs. The Snapdragon X2 Plus incorporates Qualcomm’s third-generation Oryon CPU and an 80 TOPS neural processing unit. It will be available from PC makers in the first half of the year, Qualcomm said.
  • The Cristiano Amon-led company also expanded its internet of things portfolio, including new Qualcomm Dragonwing Q-series processors. Other announcements include deals with Leapmotor, ZF and Toyota.
  • Qualcomm shares rose more than 2% in midday trading on Monday.
