Alibaba’s (BABA) Qwen app is said to have surpassed 10 million downloads within a week of its relaunch, signaling strong momentum in its bid to compete with OpenAI’s (OPENAI) ChatGPT.
The Chinese e-commerce leader’s shares climbed more than 5% Monday in Hong Kong after Alibaba disclosed the number in a WeChat blog post, as per reports.
That rapid ramp follows the move this month to rename and freshen up Alibaba’s pre-existing apps on iOS and Android, unifying the services under the Qwen banner.
The early user figures for Qwen followed a similar statement over the weekend from Alibaba fintech affiliate Ant Group, which introduced its own multimodal AI assistant, LingGuang, last week, Bloomberg reported. LingGuang has been downloaded more than a million times in the four days since its launch.
