Intel has formally completed its spinout of RealSense, which manufactures depth cameras and vision technology for use in autonomous mobile robots.
RealSense has also secured $50M through a Series A funding round. The capital will be used to expand “into adjacent and emerging markets and scale its manufacturing, sales and go-to-market global presence to meet increased demand for humanoid and autonomous mobile robotics (AMRs), as well as AI-powered access control and security solutions,” according to a news release.
Strategic investors in RealSense include Intel Capital and MediaTek Innovation Fund.
RealSense’s depth cameras are already installed in 60% of the world’s AMRs and humanoid robots.
The company is helmed by Nadav Orbach, who was previously VP and general manager for the Incubation and Disruptive Innovation group at Intel, leading development of visual sensing technologies.
“We’re excited to build on our leadership position in 3D perception in robotics and see scalable growth potential in the rise of physical AI,” he said in a statement. “Our independence allows us to move faster and innovate more boldly to adapt to rapidly changing market dynamics as we lead the charge in AI innovation and the coming robotics renaissance.”
