Sellers named in India’s antitrust probe on Amazon, Walmart sue watchdog: Reuters

Several current and former online sellers named in an investigation that found Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Walmart’s (NYSE:WMT) Flipkart violated India’s competition laws have sued the country’s antitrust watchdog, Reuters reported this week.
Appario Retail, a former seller on Amazon (AMZN) India, filed a lawsuit against the Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Friday in the Karnataka High Court, seeking an order to set aside the report.
Flipkart sellers—CIGFIL Retail, Wishery Online, and Xonique Ventures—also made similar submissions in three separate court filings, which are expected to be taken up for a hearing potentially next week.
“The alleged investigation… is arbitrary, opaque, unfair,” they said, seeking a court order to put the CCI’s process on hold.
The investigation launched in 2020 following a complaint from brick-and-mortar retailers of the Confederation of All India Traders found in August that Amazon (AMZN) and Flipkart allegedly gave preference to certain sellers in violation of local antitrust laws.
