South Korea’s police raided Coupang’s (CPNG) headquarters in Seoul on Tuesday to seize evidence related to a massive data breach exposing personal information of over 33 million people.
The police said they were looking for evidence that could help them determine how the breach took place as well as the personal information of the hacker, a local media house reported, citing officials.
“We are analyzing server logs submitted by Coupang,” an official with the Seoul Metropolitan Police told reporters. “We have secured the IP used by the suspect in the crime, and are tracking them down.” Seventeen officers from the Seoul metropolitan police’s cyber investigation unit were deployed, with law enforcement vowing to “comprehensively investigate.”
The breach occurred over months from June 2025, affecting nearly two-thirds of Koreans, compromising names, phone numbers, email addresses, and delivery details. Coupang (CPNG) is South Korea’s most popular online shopping platform.
