To capitalize on consumers’ appetite for healthier choices, Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) is expanding its trial of coconut water-infused cold drinks.
Beginning Thursday, the coffee chain will offer Coco Matcha and Coco Cold Brew to more than 400 stores across New York City, greater Los Angeles, Chicago, and select cities in the Midwest. The regional test will allow the company to gather additional feedback from customers and baristas.
As part of the company’s plan to accelerate health and wellness innovation, customers in select locations can now order beverages that layer matcha foam or cold brew foam over coconut water poured over ice. A grande Coco Matcha contains 230 calories and 11 grams of sugar, while a grande Coco Cold Brew contains 70 calories and 9 grams of sugar.
Under new CEO Brian Niccol, Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) is embracing new beverage and food options, “bringing a consistent drumbeat of innovation to market through fiscal year 2026,” Niccol said on the company’s most recent earnings call. This includes the incorporation of cold foam into more beverages (which grew 23% year-over-year), as well as the introduction of protein cold foam later this year.
