Stranger Things’ season 5 finale sets New Year’s Day record for Netflix

The finale for Stranger Things’ fifth season set a New Year’s Day viewership record for Netflix (NFLX) and put the series at number 9 on the streaming services’ Most Popular English TV list.

Although the total viewership for the finale was not disclosed by Netflix (NFLX), for its debut week (Dec 29 to Jan 4), the series lured in 31.5M views, adding to the 105.7 million views for the entire season.

The finale was also screened in 600 theaters, pulling in an estimated $25M in revenue over New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

At 31.3M views for the period between Dec 29 to Jan 4, Stranger Things 5 viewership was more than twice the number 2 spot held by Run Away at number 2 with 12.7M views. At number 3 was Stranger Things: Season 1 (7.6M views), followed by Emily in Paris: Season 5 at 7.4M views. The bottom half of the list contains season 2 of Stranger Things (5.5M views), Ricky Gervais: Mortality (5.1M views), Stranger Things: Season 3 (5M views), Stranger Things: Season 4 (4.8M views), Man vs Baby: Season 1 (4M), and Dave Chappelle: The Unstoppable… (2.8M).
