Taiwan looks to make massive purchase of U.S. weapons from Trump administration – report
The Taiwan government is considering a major purchase of weapons and defense equipment from the U.S., Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Lockheed Martin’s (NYSE:LMT) F-35 jets, Northrop Grumman’s (NYSE:NOC) E-2D Advanced Hawkeye airborne radar and Raytheon’s (NYSE:RTX) Patriot missiles are the potential targets for the defense package.
Sources said the purchase is being considered to shore up support from the next Trump administration. Taiwan could request as many as 60 F-35 jets, four Advanced Hawkeyes, 10 retired warships and 400 Patriot missiles – a package potentially worth over $15B.
A Taiwanese official said the Aegis naval weapon system from Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) would also be in the list of potential asks.
