Tech Voices: OpenAI to run ads, Micron CEO on AI growth

Seeking Alpha’s roundup of statements, announcements, and remarks that could impact markets, sectors, or individual stocks.

  • OpenAI (OPENAI) said it plans to test placing ads within certain ChatGPT replies, but that AI responses won’t be influenced by them.

In a statement, OpenAI said the ads will appear for U.S. adult users of its free and low-cost Go services, with Plus, Pro, and Enterprise subscriptions remaining ad-free. Ads will also not appear in responses on sensitive topics such as politics, health, and mental health.

“To start, we plan to test ads at the bottom of answers in ChatGPT when there’s a relevant sponsored product or service based on your current conversation. Ads will be clearly labeled and separated from the organic answer. You’ll be able to learn more about why you’re seeing that ad, or dismiss any ad and tell us why,” OpenAI said in its statement.

OpenAI, which is still private, counts Microsoft (MSFT) as a major backer.

  • Micron (MU) CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said that AI is driving increased demand for its memory products.

“AI-driven demand is accelerating,” Mehrotra told CNBC during an interview on Friday. “It is real. It is here, and we need more and more memory to address that demand.”

Mehrotra said the company saw growth in the high-teens percentage range for its server memory products by the end of 2025, along with stronger-than-expected growth for PC memory and storage. As a result, the company is working to produce more chips at its existing manufacturing facilities while it builds additional capacity.

“We see that tightness continuing into 2027, so we see durable industry fundamentals over the foreseeable future, driven by AI demand,” Mehrotra added.
