Seeking Alpha’s roundup of statements, announcements and remarks that could impact the technology sector.
- Trump told CNBC that he plans to roll out updated tariffs for semiconductors and chips within the next two weeks.
“We’re going to be announcing on semiconductors and chips, which is a separate category, because we want them made in the United States,” Trump said on CNBC’s Squawk Box.
- Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) said its chips don’t have “kill switches.”
“To mitigate the risk of misuse, some pundits and policymakers propose requiring hardware ‘kill switches’ or built-in controls that can remotely disable GPUs without user knowledge and consent. Some suspect they might already exist,” Nvidia Chief Security Officer David Reber Jr. said in a blog post. “Nvidia GPUs do not and should not have kill switches and backdoors.”
The CSO’s remarks come in the wake of the company’s meeting with Chinese regulators over security concerns about its H20 chips.
- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (NYSE:TSM) said it is taking disciplinary and legal action against certain personnel who are suspected of leaking trade secrets.
“TSMC maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any actions that compromise the protection of trade secrets or harm the company’s interests,” the company told CNBC.
“Such violations are dealt with strictly and pursued to the fullest extent of the law. We remain committed to safeguarding our core competitiveness and the shared interests of all our employees.”
The case is now under judicial review, TSMC added.
