Tech Voices: Trump’s AI order, Nvidia-China, Apple’s chip chief

Seeking Alpha’s roundup of statements, announcements, and remarks that could impact the technology sector.

  • President Trump said he plans to sign an executive order aimed at preempting state laws on AI with federal guidelines.

“There must be only One Rulebook if we are going to continue to lead in AI. We are beating ALL COUNTRIES at this point in the race, but that won’t last long if we are going to have 50 States, many of them bad actors, involved in RULES and the APPROVAL PROCESS. THERE CAN BE NO DOUBT ABOUT THIS! AI WILL BE DESTROYED IN ITS INFANCY!,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Monday.

“I will be doing a ONE RULE Executive Order this week. You can’t expect a company to get 50 Approvals every time they want to do something. THAT WILL NEVER WORK!,” Trump added.

  • The White House reportedly plans to direct the Commerce Department to allow for the export of less advanced Nvidia (NVDA) H200 AI chips to China.

According to Semafor, the directive would allow for the export of Nvidia H200 chips that are around 18 months behind technologically from its most advanced chips.

Semafor noted that the Chinese government has advised local companies not to buy less advanced chips such as Nvidia’s H20 due to security concerns.

  • Apple (AAPL) SVP of Hardware Technologies Johny Srouji, who oversees the company’s chip and component development team, said that he has no plans to leave the company in the near future.

“I know you’ve been reading all kind of rumors and speculations about my future at Apple, and I feel that you need to hear from me directly,” he said in a company memo, according to Bloomberg. “I love my team, and I love my job at Apple, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.”

Bloomberg had reported previously that Srouji had told Apple CEO Tim Cook that he was considering leaving the company.
