Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) plans to expand its robotaxi service to the San Francisco Bay Area “in a month or two,” CEO Elon Musk said Wednesday, though the move depends on receiving regulatory approvals.
The company launched a limited pilot of the autonomous ride-hailing service in Austin, Texas last month, using about a dozen vehicles under tight constraints, including the presence of a safety monitor in the front passenger seat.
Responding on X to a user asking about updates, Musk said Tesla will expand the service to “a larger area in Austin this weekend.”
When Tesla Owners Silicon Valley inquired about availability in the Bay Area, Musk replied: “Waiting on regulatory approvals, but probably in a month or two.”
