Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its Model Y electric SUV, priced at around ₹6 million ($69,751), according to a price catalog published on its website.
The U.S. automaker is offering two variants of the Model Y in India: the rear-wheel drive model priced at ₹5.9 million, and the long-range rear-wheel drive version priced at around ₹6.8 million. Both are available for cash purchase.
The Indian pricing is notably higher than in other major markets. In comparison, the Model Y starts at $44,990 in the U.S., 263,500 yuan (around $36,000) in China, and €45,970 (around $50,000) in Germany.
The launch marks a significant step for Elon Musk’s Tesla as it expands its footprint into the fast-growing Indian EV market. The announcement comes amid broader discussions between Tesla and Indian authorities over potential investments in local manufacturing and supply chain development.
