Tesla recalls 2,431 Cybertrucks to address an inverter issue
Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) announced on Wednesday a recall of 2,431 Cybertruck vehicles to address a fault in the drive inverter that may cause a loss of drive power to the wheels.
The recall covers certain 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024, that are or were equipped with metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors in the drive inverter.
The NHTSA said that if the inverter stops producing torque, the driver loses the ability to apply torque to the vehicle using the accelerator pedal resulting in a loss of propulsion, which may increase the risk of a collision.
Beginning on or shortly after December 9, at no charge to the customer, Tesla (TSLA) will replace the recalled drive inverter with a drive inverter equipped with a properly functioning MOSFET component. Tesla (TSLA) does not plan to include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification about pre-notice reimbursement to owners because all affected vehicles remain covered under the new vehicle warranty.
The Tesla (TSLA) Cybertruck has had five separate recall actions this year.
Shares of Tesla (TSLA) were up 1.7% in premarket trading to $333.93 after shedding 6.2% on Tuesday. Late on Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump named Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head up a new Department of Government Efficiency. The development could ease concerns that Elon Musk would take an official position in the Trump Cabinet.
