For the week ending June 06, the S&P 500 Consumer Discretionary sector (NYSEARCA:XLY) saw a decline in price of 0.99%, below the benchmark S&P 500’s (SP500) 1.09% rise. However, the sector’s year-to-date performance is even weaker, down 5.43%, significantly trailing the benchmark’s 2.02% rise.
This week, we saw shifts in consumer discretionary stocks as investors reacted to economic data, and pressure from the public dispute between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, alongside renewed concerns about U.S.-China trade relations.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NYSE:NCLH) +10.82% Citi raised Norwegian Cruise Line’s price target to $25, maintaining a Buy rating, citing improved web traffic and pricing data, indicating stability in the cruise industry.

Royal Caribbean Cruises (NYSE:RCL) +7.54% Citi analyst James Hardiman raised Royal Caribbean’s price target to $318, maintaining a Buy rating, citing improved web traffic and pricing trends from April to May.
eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) +7.43% JPMorgan’s Doug Anmuth raised eBay’s price target to $66, maintaining a Neutral rating after better than expected Q1 earnings.
Top S&P 500 consumer discretionary losers:
lululemon athletica (NASDAQ:LULU) -16.23% after weak sales and a lowered profit outlook for FY2025. Q2 revenue is expected to be $2.535B-$2.56B, with EPS projected at $2.85-$2.90, both below estimates.
Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) -14.81% after President Trump and Elon Musk engaged in a public dispute. However, on Friday, investors were reassured by news that White House aides had scheduled a call with Musk to de-escalate tensions. Musk criticized a Trump-backed budget bill, leading Trump to threaten to cancel contracts and subsidies for Tesla and SpaceX.
Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ:WYNN) -8.00% on Thursday, the firm purchased Wynn Mayfair from Crown Resorts after UK Gaming Commission approval, expanding its presence in Europe and the Middle East.
General Motors (NYSE:GM) -4.31% as a new 50% U. S. tariff on imported steel and aluminum is hurting U. S. automakers by increasing costs and affecting their competitiveness against European and Japanese companies.
