The Trump administration is discussing putting tariffs on foreign-made electronics based on the number of semiconductors they have inside of them, Reuters reported.
The U.S. Commerce Dept. could impose a tariff on the product that is equal to the percentage of the estimated value of the processors inside them, the news outlet added, citing people familiar with the matter. The news outlet added that the plan could still change.
All kinds of devices could be impacted, including electronic toothbrushes, laptops, phones and more, the news outlet added.
The U.S. Commerce Dept. did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
