President Donald Trump will ask Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s relationship with JPMorgan Chase (JPM), as well as a number of Democrats, he said on Friday.
The request comes as the release of documents related to the investigation of Epstein raised questions about how much Trump knew about the convicted pedophiles activities before he was president.
“I will be asking A.G. Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions, to determine what was going on with them, and him,” he wrote in a social media post.
Trump accused Democrats of using what he calls “the Epstein Hoax” to distract from the government shutdown “and all their other failures.”
“This is another Russia, Russia, Russia Scam, with all arrows pointing to the Democrats,” he said in the post.
JPMorgan Chase (JPM) stock fell 0.9% in Friday morning trading, during a session when the KBW Nasdaq Bank Index (BKX) is down 0.6%.
JPMorgan chief Jamie Dimon reportedly attended a dinner, along with a number of other Wall Street leaders, hosted by Trump at the White House on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
