UK accepts Meta’s proposed changes on how it uses ad data from Marketplace
After consultation with experts in the sector, the UK’s competition regulator has accepted social media giant Meta’s (NASDAQ:META) proposals for changes on how the company uses advertising customers’ data from its Marketplace platform, according to a statement on the official government website on Tuesday.
“The varied commitments give Meta an additional way to implement the data controls set up in the original commitments. Meta currently plans to adopt this new approach, meaning that all advertisers can retain the ability to place advertisements on Facebook Marketplace and be certain of their advertising data not being used to improve Facebook Marketplace without having to opt in or out,” the Competition and Markets Authority said in their blogpost dated August 20.
The CMA said it accepted a variation of commitments by Meta that were previously accepted on 3 November 2023. The variation now contains the option of excluding certain ad data from all advertisers from being used by Meta in Facebook Marketplace.
