Ukrainians file lawsuits against Intel, AMD and Texas Instruments: report

A Texas trial lawyer has filed multiple lawsuits against several semiconductor companies alleging their technology was found in Russian weaponry used on Ukrainian civilians, according to Bloomberg.

The suits, filed by attorney Mikal Watts of the Watts Law Firm in Austin on behalf of Ukrainian citizens, target Intel (INTC), AMD (AMD), Texas Instruments (TXN) and Mouser Electronics, a company acquired by Berkshire Hathaway, the report said. The civil suits, filed Wednesday at a state court in Dallas, allege the companies displayed “willful ignorance” as “third parties resold restricted chips to Russia to power drones and missiles in violation of U.S. sanctions.”

Seeking Alpha reached out to Intel, Texas Instruments and AMD regarding the allegations in the suits.

The suits reference five attacks between 2023 and 2025 that killed dozens of Ukrainian civilians, the report said. Russia allegedly used drones made in Iran containing Intel and AMD components. Other attacks referenced Russian-made Iskander ballistic missiles and KH-101 cruise missiles.

The companies have asserted in the past they have fully complied with U.S. sanctions and ceased all transactions in Russia since the war began and have strict monitoring procedures in place, the report said.

Watts has been involved in an array of high-profile class action suits, such as the BP (BP) “Deepwater Horizon” oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the northern California wildfires in 2017 and 2018 related to Pacific Gas and Electric (PCG) equipment. The PG&E case led to a $13.5B settlement.
