Vietnam’s low-cost carrier VietJet is negotiating a potential order of around 100 Airbus (OTCPK:EADSF) (OTCPK:EADSY) A321neo jets, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the talks.
The deal may be unveiled at next week’s Paris Air Show.
The purchase would significantly expand VietJet’s Airbus (OTCPK:EADSF) (OTCPK:EADSY) backlog, bringing it close to 500 aircraft, putting it alongside major buyers like IndiGo and Air India.
The airline, already operating 115 Airbus (OTCPK:EADSF) (OTCPK:EADSY) planes and holding additional orders with both Airbus (OTCPK:EADSF) (OTCPK:EADSY) and Boeing (NYSE:BA), is also facing a legal dispute in London over a $180 million judgment. Despite financial pressures, the carrier continues to pursue growth across Asia, Australia and beyond.
