Walmart’s (NYSE:WMT) paid membership program will soon offer access to NBCUniversal’s Peacock service, as the retail giant boosts its streaming offerings to better compete with Amazon (AMZN) Prime.
Walmart+ members will be able to choose between the ad-supported plans of Peacock and Paramount+ at no additional cost, starting September 15. Paramount+ has been available to Walmart+ members since 2022.
Walmart+ members can switch between the two services every 90 days, the company said in a statement marking the membership program’s fifth anniversary.
“By offering the ability to switch between two top-tier video streaming services, we’re empowering our members to customize their entertainment experience and enjoy significant savings,” said Deepak Maini, senior vice president, Walmart+.
Priced at $98 a year, Walmart+ offers its members other benefits including free shipping, free same-day delivery for groceries and prescriptions, and gas discounts.
Amazon (AMZN) Prime, which launched 20 years ago, is still the leading membership program with more than 200M subscribers. Meanwhile, Walmart+ has over 31M members.
